This page from my master list of all Las Vegas articles I wrote while developing Vanabode as the best travel vehicle for cheap easy long term road trips. Cascata Golf CourseCascata Golf Course partners with "Rio" and "Harrah's" to provide play and stay packages that can be a great deal for visitors as well as locals. Cascata means waterfall in Italian, and this desert course has a 415 foot high waterfall that roars down the mountain and blasts past the clubhouse before becoming part of the course. After visiting Cascata, Sports Illustrated called it 'golf's hidden treasure.'
The clubhouse is Tuscan styled, with old world charm that includes TV flat screens in men's and ladies' lounges; it's very large with over 37,000 square feet. The staff is very well trained and knows what it means to accommodate you - that old world charm again. Special orders are not a problem. And if you drink it, they will get it!
This 72-par 7,100 yard course was devilishly designed by Rees Jones. And it winds through the mountains with narrow fairways, deceptive upward slopes, and mountain side tees. Seven of the holes have water. And the wind has wrecked many a pro's scorecard. I had to ask my caddy sometimes for advice on the correct line. It can be confusing actually as to whether it's downhill or uphill. But it's a lot of fun also. Caddies are mandatory. But they can be very helpful since they play the course as much as they can. Cascata Golf Course has 4 tees to drive off of, and a wild slope of 117. Plan to stay the day and take your time, savoring every stroke, every angle provides a new vista. I found it hard to concentrate totally on the task at hand, as the views are so gorgeous and seem to creep into the conversation. The caddy will help you focus. The golf cart is first rate with its comfortable velour seats and side panels if you need them. This is mountain weather and it can get chilly. Cascata has pretty much thought of everything to make your experience unique. Hole 18 is notable. It's a 200 foot drop from the tee! Our mountain course made the last hole the hardest. It's 560 yards, par-5 that you have to navigate over a water hazard running its entire length. Then you must drive over a rock foundation, or play it safe - drive left of the sand trip, make a middle iron shot. Nothing works too well as the fairway slopes toward the water. Even the finish is tough, as the green undulates; still a pro might make a birdie. You have come far from the 1st hole. Note, when you stand at the 1st hole, you can not see any other holes or golfers. Wow, what an experience from start to end!
Located in Boulder City, Cascata Golf Course is 30 miles straight east of the Strip. Take the 215 interstate to the 515/95 South, exit on to right at 93/95 fork to the Laughlin / Bullhead City exit. Plan to have the most exciting golf game of your life at Cascata. American Road Trips - reviews & pictures of places we visited on $20 a day - food, gas and lodging. | ||||||
