This page from my master list of all Las Vegas articles I wrote while developing Vanabode as the best travel vehicle for cheap easy long term road trips.

Harrahs Hotel And Casino In Las Vegas

Harrah's Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas gives you old Vegas which means a sometimes smoky, noisy casino. Adding to the excitement and noise are attractions like the dueling pianos and the rowdy outdoor Carnaval Court. Everything here is a whirlwind of energy and excitement. It's probably the closest thing to downtown Fremont Street, but it's on the Strip. if you own your own copy of Vanabode then you know where I stand on pools in Vegas and how to use them for free while van camping the city. If you are coming to swim always call ahead to make sure the pool is open and heated. Sometimes Vegas hits record temperatures and the pool will close or be under repair.

The weekend is a good time to play poker here because with tourists flocking into the poker room, games tend to be loose. Harrah's poker room is not as large as the Luxor, so don't be surprised if you can't get a seat. Race and Sports Book has all your favorite sports with over 45 high-definition TVs to watch. If you get hungry watching games the Pepper Rose serves up BBQ and rotisserie sandwiches here. Keno players also have a lounge that is full-service. Harrah's has a free shuttle bus that will take you to the Rio, Caesar's Palace, and Bally's every 20 minutes. There's also a free bus that will take you to Sam's Town Casino across town. Since we like to keep our Vanabode parked all day and night when possible, we always make use of this service to travel cheap.

Eating at Harrah's Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas is an adventure. Try the fried baloney sandwich at Toby Keith's Bar and Grill, or sit in the outdoor Carnaval Court and eat in the midst of everyone walking by like at Mon Ami Gabi at the Paris where you can also eat outside. Upscale diners will want to go to Ming's Table or The Range Steakhouse at Harrah's.

The Range has an outstanding onion soup; or go for the garlic steak fries and choice of steak cooked just the way you like it. You can have fried baloney sandwichs at Toby Keith's I Love This Bar and Grill.

Park at Harrah's Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and you can easily walk to the Mirage, Imperial Palace, Caesar's Palace or the Venetian. Parking at Harrah's via the Strip can be a nightmare if you miss the small entrance.

If you get stuck in traffic be prepared to wait for an eternity to make an impossible U-turn. Better to enter from the rear using Koval Lane. Make sure you tell your taxi driver to stay off the Strip unless you want to see the sites and pay a lot.

If you check in around 10am the wait can be quite long. If they put you in a room in the Carnival Tower make sure it's not overlooking the Carnaval Court; bands play there until 2am. Overall, beds are comfortable, rooms are clean and maid service comes in everyday. You'll find plenty of pillows and the bathrooms are clean. It's important to make your room reservations ASAP. Vegas is not only a 24 hour town, it's busy 365 days of the year.

There's an afternoon magic show here with Mac King. It's reliable, funny and there are lots of places to find a coupon to get in free. It doesn't have the sophistication of magician Lance Burton at the Tropicana or Steve Wyrick at Planet Hollywood, formerly the Aladdin, but it's a lot cheaper.

From the screaming upbeat poker room on weekends to the entertainment both in the casino and outside on the street. They have one of the funniest sculptures I have ever seen of two real Vegas old timers that really captures the spirit of this place.

The two towers of rooms at Harrahs are named Mardi Gras and the smaller roomed Carnival. Try to get a room with a view of the Strip though there aren't many. The biggest deal here is you are right on the strip for a great price. Vegas no longer has a slow season, so make your reservations now from this page to get the rooms you want.

A terrific depiction of a couple that hit the jackpot posing with their happy poodle at Harrah's Hotel. It is constantly rotating so that you can see every detail.

At Harrah's it is easy to miss the entrance to the parking garage. I enter from the back from Koval Lane. You can easily walk across the street to the Mirage, or next door to Imperial Palace. As for the gaming, they call the casino main floor Toby’s I Love This Party Pit, and dealers dress in country-western outfits and serve it up with a backdrop of country music playing.

The poker room is not large but there is lots of action at Harrah's Hotel Las Vegas. There are 15 TVs (which I don't advise watching while trying to win money) and food service is available tableside (I do advise eating while winning money). They still have penny slots so you can game cheaply.

Overview: have to be there to experience the feel of this place
Location: Central Las Vegas Strip
Restaurants: The Range Steakhouse is better than average with an outstanding view of people on the Strip, otherwise typical fare from 12 different restaurants plus a buffet
Nightclubs, Lounges:
Casino: 85,000+ square feet, including Blackjack, Caribbean Stud Poker, Craps, Keno, Let It Ride, Baccarat, Pai Gow Poker, Poker, Roulette, more than 2,600 slot machines, and poker room, race & sports book has seating for 50+ people with 50 TV's and many big screens for viewing major events.
Entertainment: Rita Rudner is quite funny and proves that women can be funny, the Improv Comedy Club has always been worth the price of admission for my wife and I though be aware they often use vulgar language
Extras: Outside on the strip you can get into some free live music and people watching in a youngish upbeat bear drinking centered atmosphere
Pools: 1 big pool and hot tub so this is NOT the pool scene I love
Health Club or Spa: yes both, plus a small salon
Shopping: nothing here but you can do some serious shopping in Vegas
Wedding chapel: numerous packages.
Childcare facilities: None
Pets allowed: No
Parking garage: free 7 story indoor parking garage
Shuttle service to the airport: back and forth to the airport by a private company, better to take a cab unless you are real short on cash.

Harrah's is part of an empire of Harrah's casinos across the world. But you won't feel that when you walk into the Mardi Gras themed casino with its close quarters and intense action. This is not a resort hotel like the Bellagio. But it's definitely the place to come for a first visit to Vegas, as the value is good and the location can't be beat. I don't like thier pool though.

Bring your walking shoes because in this location you'll want to explore the nearby hotels. Ask for a room with a view of the Strip. The other rooms too often have just a view of the other tower or air-conditioners. The overall quality of the rooms is good, similar to Holiday Inn and better than Circus Circus. Beds are comfortable and housekeeping comes by daily to change sheets and towels. Realize that Vegas is often sold out especially if conventions or special events are in town.

Harrah's is less than 4 miles from McCarran International Airport. It is centrally located in the middle of the Strip next to the Venetian and the "Imperial Palace." From here you can easily walk to the Mirage and see the roaring volcano, or to "Treasure Island" and watch the sexy Sirens of TI battle the pirates. Both attractions are free.

Harrah's Hotel Las Vegas, Nevada has been voted best place to play slots 5 years in a row. You'll find the action fast and furious throughout the slots, card games, poker rooms, keno and sports betting. Drinks come quickly in the sports betting area. Get to the poker room early, weekends are jammed with loose games and tourists.

We love the rooms in the front with a view of the Strip. Nothing beats them, especially for the price. The quality is no higher than a Comfort Inn but the location is the best in Vegas. You'll find 24 hour room service, pay-per-view movies, hair dryers and Internet access in every room. Maid service is daily and efficient. Rooms in the Carnival Tower are newer and have better details. Rooms in the Mardi Gras Tower are older but larger. When van camping the winters here we always check out this joint, it's fun, cheap and usually they give away some kind of incentive for joining the players club. There's great comedy with award-winning Rita Rudner, or stand-up at the Improv Comedy Club whose line up changes nightly at Harrah's Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
