Matthaei Botanical Gardens University MichiganThis is part of an 18 week, 7,532 mile, Vanabode road trip detailed in the
book from Amazon We visit the Matthaei Botanical Gardens, part of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, on a visitor’s center recommendation. Parking is a dollar forty an hour but admission is free. It’s a sweet pretty place this time of year. Above: A massive long conservatory houses sunlit desert, temperate, and tropical trees and plants. Some of the tropical plants are bigger than the ones in South Florida’s outdoor gardens. Above: I know this is for kids but I don't see any today so in the spiders web I go. Native orchids, forty-foot tall Agave flower stalks, forty-year-old bonsai trees, acres of real vegetable producing gardens, a kid’s world, and rock gardens, round out the offerings. We walk a woodland trail over muddy streams to visit the well stocked but expensive gift shop. It’s a fun half-day.
