Gloucester Virginia on $20 a dayThis is part of an 18 week, 7,532 mile, Vanabode road trip detailed in the
book from Amazon We leave the Colonial Historical Park in Yorktown and roll into Virginia’s oldest living village, a quaint two to three acres of small and tiny brick historic buildings. My lovely Aunt Faye and her husband Larry host us for a few days. She explains why this little Gloucester was so important to our country’s early start. A road completely circles the entire downtown district, which includes ample free parking and sidewalks. Hickory trees stretch so far into the blue sky that I cannot see their tops. Two rows of buildings face each other under the shade trees and cover of low hung white dogwoods, bright pink azaleas, red Japanese maples, dark green Leyland cypress, yellow gladiolas, and rainbow colored tulips.
Above: This building is still in use today. Above: Some call Gloucester the daffodil capitol of the world and these unique underground bulbs are already extending their green fingers through the clay soil. Gloucester debtors prison circa 1810 with fascinating English history discussed in detail in the book. Above: Pocahantas Chimney (Powatan) is surrounded by mystery and interesting stories.
