Cattus Island County Park New JerseyThis is part of an 18 week, 7,532 mile, Vanabode road trip detailed in the
book from Amazon The 520-acre Cattus Island County Park is a rare bright spot thus far in our run up through New Jersey. We read all the historical information, use the portable toilets, and suit up for three miles of splendid hiking. Natural earth berm trails rise two feet up over the swamp, sandy beach, and forest floor meaning somebody somewhere was actually thinking at some point. Above: Trees grow thick and snuggle closely together, preventing much underbrush growth. We nearly have the place to ourselves. Water is everywhere, rivers, swamps, little ponds, runoff areas, and estuaries. Soon we head back out for another three miles of trail exploration, this time to the east. The sun is higher now, the wind is stronger, and the swamp is warmer. We don’t see anyone at all until three kayakers paddle past us offshore. I like this county park a lot. For thousands of unforgettable experiences on this affordable
